Michael Welch, RHU, REBC, followed his father’s footsteps into the insurance industry beginning his insurance career in 1991 as a marketing representative for The Paul Revere Insurance Co. In 1995 after earning designations as a Registered Health Underwriter and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant he was hired by Consilium's predecessor Larry Sherwood & Associates as a producing broker. In 2014 he purchased the agency from its founder. Michael has served in advisory capacities to many health insurance companies and is Past President of the Portland and Oregon Associations of Health Underwriters where he has lobbied on both the state and national level for common sense health insurance reform. He is regarded both in the insurance community and by the clients he serves as honest, straight-forward and a staunch advocate for his clients.
When not lobbying for common sense insurance reform or advocating for clients, you may find Michael pursuing his other passions. A former division I baseball player, he still enjoys playing baseball and an occasional game of basketball. A little out of place in the craft beer happy world of Portland, Michael with his passion for fine Tequila might be more suited for Jalisco, Mexico. He’s been known to carry on about the finer tasting notes of a good blanco like sommeliers discuss a good Oregon Pinot! His greatest unfulfilled goal; winning a bracelet in a World Series of poker event. His most unique characteristic; he is ambidextrous.
